1. Get your gear: Players will receive a uniform hat and shirt; and each team will have a few baseball bats, helmets, and catchers gear (Farm+) on-hand for the team to share.
- Players should come with a glove and water bottle, and are also encouraged to equip themselves with their own baseball pants, batting helmet, baseball bat and cleats. Soccer cleats work great! Metal spike cleats are only allowed in the Juniors Division and up, and then only on select natural sod turf (grass) fields. Read tips for choosing the right bat for your player in our January newsletter.
- Rookie division+: Catchers are welcome to bring their own catching gear, and male players who plan to catch should bring a jockstrap protector.
- Let your coach or player agent know if getting equipment for your child poses a financial hardship on your family and SFLL is happy to help.
2. Complete our volunteer registration form and get fingerprinted so you can help on the field (coaches, assistant coaches, practice assistants, team parents, or any adult or youth 16+ who will be interacting with any kid other than their own).
- Both Little League International and the CA Department of Justice require all of our on-field volunteers to be background checked and fingerprinted. SFLL provides opportunities for our members to be fingerprinted for free.
5. Learn more about our umpiring program. Adults and youth ages 12+ are eligible to umpire, and SFLL compensates youth umpires for their time with cash or volunteer hours. Comprehensive training is provided by the league for free.
6. Volunteer. The success of San Francisco Little League is dependent upon parents and guardians stepping forward to help with the many tasks associated with running the league. Please volunteer your time so that the kids of San Francisco can continue to enjoy the best youth sports program in the area.
