FARM DIVISIONS

The Farm division is designed for players little league age 6 to 8 (as of 8/31/25) and serves as a bridge between Tee Ball and kid-pitch divisions. We do not keep score in the Farm division, but we do introduce coach-pitch and the opportunity for players to advance their skill and improve their understanding of the game. There are 10 players per team and they bat around the order and play in the field each inning.

Farm division is divided into two levels based on experience:

Lower Farm is designed for younger players moving up from Tee Ball, including little league 6-year-olds and less experienced little league 7-year-olds, who are new to organized baseball.

Upper Farm is for more experienced little league 7-year-olds and 8-year-olds who have some baseball experience but are not yet ready for the modified kid-pitch Rookie division.

Players in the Farm division focus on improving throwing, catching, fielding, hitting, and teamwork while gaining confidence in a fun supportive environment.

GAMES & PRACTICES

The season includes approximately 10 games. Games are once a week on a weekend, with one practice per week (Monday to Friday) for about 1 hour. The coach determines the day, time and location for practice based on the field lottery.

Equipment

SFLL will provide each team with the equipment necessary for games and practices.  Equipment that will be provided to each team includes helmets, bats, balls, and a uniform shirt and hat for each player. Items that typically need to be purchased by the parent include a glove, baseball/softball pants, and cleats. Some parents may also choose to purchase a helmet and/or bat for their child to use.

SFLL offers equipment assistant to any family in need.  Contact your player agent if you need help getting equipment for your player.

VOLUNTEERING

Volunteers are the backbone of our program; we depend on every family to support to the league in one way or another.

SFLL's network of volunteers come together with a common purpose and goal: to provide a positive and supportive baseball and softball learning experience for all SFLL players. We know first-hand that volunteering will be a fun and easy way to contribute to a quality baseball experience for all.  Simply put, the more involved you are, the more fun both you and your child will have!

Throughout the season, there will be a variety of opportunities for everyone to participate and contribute to the success of our teams and league, from coaching, to scorekeeping, to volunteering to help with a special event.

SFLL provides our volunteer coaches with a curriculum of activities focused on fun, fitness, and fundamentals that can be implemented during practices and games.  We also offer coaches a robust training program including in-person coaching clinics, Positive Coaching Alliance training, and more.  Learn more about volunteering.

Group Requests: Farms

Coaches' players are automatically placed on the coach's team. A head coach may request up to three additional players, following the SF Little League's guideline of a maximum of four players from the same school and no more than three players from the same grade at the same school. The head coach must also recruit an assistant coach. All on-field volunteers must register and consent to background check.

Group requests must be submitted by the division Player Agents by 1/7/25, including player names, school, grade, and parent emails.  Each player must register individually.  Player Agents may reject group requests if they unbalance teams or the division. Only requests linked to a registered coach will be considered.

SFLL reserves the right to place kids into a division based on skills, safety and overall balance of the division.

About Little League Ages

Your player’s league age is determined by the Little League Baseball® and Little League Softball® Age Charts. The dates for baseball and softball are different, but each determines the division in which your Little Leaguer will play this season. The Age Determination Date for a Little League Baseball player is the actual age of a child on August 31 of the current season year. The Age Determination Date for a Little League Softball player is the actual age of a child on December 31 of the previous season year. Learn more.
